With the fitting nickname of 'sea cows' manatees are huge, fully aquatic marine mammals. These majestic creatures can weigh up to 1,300 pounds and grow to be 13 feet long. They have paddle like flippers that help them navigate through the water. Manatees are gentle and slow-moving with most of their time spent eating, resting, and traveling. They rest submerged at the bottom or just below the surface of shallow, slow-moving rivers, estuaries, saltwater bays, canals, and coastal areas and come up to breathe on an average of every three to five minutes. Would you swim with one of these gentle giants?
