While this majestic image seems as if it comes straight from a fairytale it is actually the Asiago Plateau. This small village in the North of Italy emerges through the mist like a mystical island captured in this awe-inspiring photo which was taken by an amateur photographer. Although probably best known internationally as the origin of Asiago cheese (yum!) It was also the site of a major battle between Austrian and Italian forces during World War I. Hard to imagine such a beautiful place playing host to violence.
